Core Specifications of the Dubslabs Bedphones

Dubslabs Bedphones Review

There is a lot to consider when buying a pair of headphones. Let’s take a more in-depth look at what the Dubslabs Bedphones offer.

Design and Construction

From a design perspective, the Bedphones aren’t anything revolutionary. But this isn’t a bad thing, they don’t reinvent the wheel but they look modern and quite stylish. The headphones are small and flat on a malleable wire which hooks over your ears.

They use memory wire which makes them very versatile. This means they will fit snugly around your ears regardless of their shape or size. This is certainly appreciated and is something that I feel should be more commonplace in headphones.

The headphone speakers are very flat, not much thicker than a coin. This helps them feel very comfortable in your ears when you’re lying down. The flatness of them might take some getting used to especially for people more used to thicker in-ear headphones.

They may seem quite flimsy and weak when you take them out of the box. But don’t be put off because these are actually impressively strong. Their thin design makes them very strong, the ear hooks in-particular maintain their shape easily.

The controller is small and contains the regular plus and minus volume controls you would expect. There is also a middle power button that can quickly turn the headphones off to save power.

Each speaker features a layer of soft foam padding, these can be hard to make out on pictures. But trust me it’s there and it does the job fine. When it comes to colors you can choose between blue or orange. Overall I’m very happy with the design and construction, but what’s the sound like?

Sound Quality

The Dubslabs Bedphones won me over with their clever lightweight design. But when I actually put them in my ears things were a little more mixed. The flat design of speakers is great when you’re lying in bed.

The speakers feel like they’re hovering over your ears. Unlike most other headphones which offer a snugger/ firmer hold. This does impact the sound quality to some degree although it really depends on what you’re listening to.

The sound is clear and crisp when the volume is low to mid-range. But it does certainly suffer when you turn it up. If you listen to your music at full blast then the Bedphones might disappoint. The bass is also somewhat lacking, it’s definitely present but not particularly rich.

If you listen to softer music then the sound quality likely won’t be an issue. But if you enjoy louder music like rock or metal then it won’t sound as rich as you’d probably like. The Bedphones do also lack noise-canceling and suffer from notable sound bleeding.

Now since these are designed for use primarily in bed this might not be a problem for everyone. The lack of noise-canceling will also help ensure you hear anything in an emergency. However, if you’re looking for headphones that will block out other sounds and let you escape into your music or audiobook, these might not do the job.

Features

The Dubslabs Bedphones aren’t exactly feature-packed but this isn’t necessarily a bad thing. In fact, the lack of interchangeable ear covers does help make these headphones more versatile. Their innovative flat design and smart ear hooks will help ensure the vast majority of people can use them without needing to alter anything.

They connect with Bluetooth and the signal strength is definitely impressive. While there is a wire connecting the speakers there is no need to connect the Bedphones directly to your phone with any nuisance wires.

So, these Bedphones could be a good Apple Airpod alternative for some people. There is a cable slider which will help give you a snugger fit as well. The Bedphones also come with their own protective pouch and an eye mask! You also get some replacement foam covers just in case.

Dubslabs Bedphones Performance

Dubslabs Bedphones Review

So, the Dubslabs Bedphones are not your ordinary headphones. Their unique design makes them great for when you’re in bed. But this also means they have some downsides as well. So, let’s take a look at the main pros and cons you need to know about.

Pros of The Bedphones

There is a lot to love about the Bedphones! Their unique design gives them some benefits you aren’t likely to find elsewhere.

Versatile Strong Design

The Bedphones might appear a little “no frills” at first but their simple design is deceptively innovative. They are incredibly lightweight and the flat speakers are a unique design approach ideal for sleeping.

This smart design approach also helps these headphones be much stronger than their appearance would suggest. When you combine this with their versatility and flexibility it’s easy to see why some people praise these headphones.

Very Comfortable

Another great perk of the Bedphones is that they are very comfortable. While the foam padding on the speakers might look quite thin, the speakers themselves effectively hover over your ears instead of going right in. This means they’ll be no harmful/ annoying ear pain even if you’re lying on your side.

Long Battery Life

At full charge, you’ll get around 13 hours of playback with the Dubslabs Bedphones! This is sure to be enough for the vast majority of people and will ensure you get a full night of audio if you want it. They are also very quick to charge as well, which is another nice bonus.

Cons of The Bedphones

The Bedphones aren’t without their drawbacks and no quality review would be fair unless I discussed them as well. So, let’s see what the potential cons with the Bedphones are.

Weak Bass

The bass on the Bedphones isn’t particularly impressive. This likely won’t matter to everyone as things like ambient music and audio is still quite crisp and clear. But louder music does suffer when playing through these speakers.

No Noise Cancelling

The lack of any active noise canceling with the Bedphones is a bit of a double-edged sword. It helps ensure you won’t sleep through any alarms or emergencies but it does mean sound bleeding. If you’re sleeping next to someone they likely won’t enjoy the sound bleeding out which occurs even on medium volume levels.

Maybe Too Expensive

The Dubslabs Bedphones are available in two versions. The wireless version is a great choice if you want a good pair of earphones for less than a few hundred dollars.

While the wired version is a fine option for anyone looking for earphones for less than a hundred dollars. The wireless version is the more popular of the two but for some people, they could be a little too expensive.

That’s not to say the Bedphones aren’t high-quality but they do face tough competition when it comes to cheaper headphones. The wired version does offer a more budget-friendly alternative though.

Alternatives to the Bedphones

There is no denying that the Bedphones could be a good option. However, it never does any harm to look at some alternatives, does it? I’ve listed a few other headphones worth looking at below.

1More Quad Driver Earbuds

1More Quad Driver Earbuds

Sleek and stylish the 1More Quad Driver Earbuds have a very premium feel to them. They offer excellent sound quality as well. However, they are a little more expensive than the Bedphones and their design doesn’t lend themselves well to lying in bed. They can still be used but aren’t specially designed for it like the Bedphones are.

Check out our 1More Quad Driver Earbuds review.

Klipsch R6 Headphones

Klipsch R6 Headphones

The Klipsch R6 Headphones offer great sound quality for a fair price. They are priced similarly to the wired Bedphones and they work brilliantly in bed! They aren’t specially designed for it like the Bedphones but offer a comfortable snug fit ideal for when you’re lying down.

However, they aren’t especially strong which makes them unsuitable for more strenuous activities like working out.

Check out our Klipsch R6 Headphones review for more information.

The Klipsch S3M

The Klipsch S3M

Another pick from Klipsch is their more budget-friendly option the Klipsch S3M. Their sound quality is pretty average and with rubber tips they don’t feel quite as premium as the Bedphones. However, if you simply want a decent pair of earphones for a more budget-friendly price they are a good choice.

Frequently Asked Questions

Question: Are The Bedphones Just For Bed?

Answer: While the Dubslabs Bedphones are primarily designed for in-bed use they can be used elsewhere as well. They are suitable for traveling, exercise, and everyday casual use. However, many of these headphones’ unique att\ributes shine best when you’re in bed or at least lying down. So, they might not seem as impressive when you’re using them elsewhere.

Question: Are The Bedphones Suitable For Exercise?

Answer: The snug fit of the Bedphones makes them a decent choice for anyone looking for some headphones for when they’re down at the gym or out running. However, they aren’t likely to make anyone’s list of the best workout headphones.

Their lack of noise-canceling means you’ll likely need to keep the volume low which isn’t something many people look for when it comes to their workout headphones. However, on the other hand, they do offer a versatile, comfy fit.

Question: Do Bedphones Work With iPhones?

Answer: The Bedphones work with most models of smartphone including iPhones. Be aware though that the wired version of the Bedphones will need an adapter to work with an iPhone 7 or later model.

Question: Do They Come With A Warranty?

Answer: When bought directly from Dubslabs or one of their authorized retailers the Bedphones do come with a 1-year warranty. You will need to contact Dubslabs through email with your warranty request though.

Are The Dubslabs Bedphones The Right Choice For You?

The Dubslabs Bedphones are certainly quite innovative and I love their modern design. Unlike some of their competitors, these headphones are versatile and flexible. Almost anyone will be able to slip them on and get a secure fit.

The audio is crisp and clear for the most part but does suffer from a lack of noise-canceling. Fans of loud music also aren’t likely to enjoy these headphones as much either. While they are brilliant for listening to music in bed, they can be worn while you’re out and about or exercising as well.

However, as the name implies it’s in bed that these headphones really shine. If you’re looking for headphones for use in bed it’s easy to recommend the Dubslabs Bedphones. But if you want headphones for everyday use there are likely better, more affordable options out there.
